Tom Cline is a sitting Gilroy city councilmember, first elected at-large in November 2022. In June 2026 he announced he would seek the new District 5 seat in the city's first district-based election.
In his announcement letter he pointed to the council's work during his term: setting up district elections, creating an Economic Development Department, a fourth fire station, pickleball courts at Las Animas Park, and continued street-maintenance investment.
