About

Joseph Garcia is a railroader and locomotive engineer of more than two decades who lives in District 5, where he is running in Gilroy's first district-based council election. On his campaign site he describes himself as the proud father of five grown children — including a West Point graduate, a San Jose State-trained civil engineer and two collegiate wrestling champions — with his son Kameha working actively on the campaign. He says the safety, federal-compliance and accountability demands of operating heavy rail equipment are the work ethic he would bring to overseeing city spending, development projects and public services.

He was the second candidate to file for the November 2026 ballot and the first to qualify in District 5, on July 21, 2026. His campaign committee, Joseph Garcia for Gilroy City Council 2026, is registered with the FPPC (ID #1493382).
